BARNEGAT OYSTER COLLECTIVE

Driscoll Foods is proud to announce its recent partnership with The Barnegat Oyster Collective, a cooperative of independent farmers based in and around New Jersey’s Barnegat Bay. The Collective aims to encourage people to know where their food comes from, to support small farmers, and to make New Jersey an oyster destination once again. The farmers who make up The Collective aim to respect the tradition of the industry while also exploring new and innovative solutions to farm better oysters more efficiently. With several different varieties harvested daily, customers now have access to the best oysters the east coast has to offer, and they can be added to regular orders without any special lead times or skip days.

This annual competition is a 2 part event in which high school students compete in both a culinary competition as well as a conceptual management presentation. The culinary portion challenged students to present an appetizer, an entrée and a dessert to an esteemed panel of judges. The management competition challenged the students with developing a concept for a restaurant. The teams had to present an entire plan starting with a them and location of a proposed establishment to an actual proposed P&L sheet. The teams from Passaic County Vocational Tech swept the competition taking 1st place in both Culinary and Management! This competition was a great sneak peak at the talent that will be emerging from New Jersey in the years to come!
